S42 Coach’s Interview w/ Connor-Colts

Connor has been knocking on the door for what feels like 3 straight cycles now. He’s a consistent run-first user that plays great defensively. He’s had various playoff runs and last season was no different as he was ultimately knocked out in the AFCCG. An underrated team builder who just made another impressive move by acquiring XF OLB/Edge TJ Watt. This will more than likely be the last coach interview for S42, I’ll look to do this again next season! Thanks for reading guys!

What was your offseason focus & do you believe that you achieved those goals? Primarily in regards to trades & FA itself.

I’ve put myself in a good position offensively both in the short and long term with Jordan Love as my established franchise QB, JT doing JT things and a WR corps that both has solid top-end talent with Tyreek Hill and depth for me to add to over the coming seasons. My focus for the remainder of the cycle is to acquire as dominant of a defense as possible to help myself out on that side of the ball. I’m very happy with the TJ Watt trade and hope that the reroll gods will turn him from an elite piece into perhaps the most singularly dominant pass rusher in the league. Even if the reroll doesn’t come through, only having to send a LB and non-ability OL for Watt was big for these Colts.

What was your draft strategy & who should the league be on the lookout for?
My draft strategy was acquiring as many future picks as possible! With our commish making the brilliant decision of holding our draft right in the middle of the NFL afternoon slate (Bears bye week smdh) I was too busy watching Chuba Hubbard run over and around the Hawks defense to attend the draft. I shopped all of my picks for futures, and am walking into next offseason with seven picks in rounds 1-3 and around $120M in cap space. I’m gonna get SWEATY with the draft evaluation process this season.

What is your realistic expectation for this season? Playoffs? Division Title? SB or bust?
I will never count myself among the top Madden minds in this league, but Jonathan Taylor has a way of closing up the skill gap for me singlehandedly. Playoffs are a fair expectation for me at this point, and truthfully the only user in this league my confidence is shot against is the man interviewing me right now. I expect playoffs, I believe I can win the division, and any sort of run in the playoffs is a partyblob.

If you had to name one breakout user for this upcoming season, who would it be & why?
No easy schedules in this league, but the NFC North has to be relatively happy with how the schedule rotation aligns for them this season. Give me Nick! I was impressed with his run-stick skills and his duo of superstar HBs during our game, and think we will see him pull out a couple of games this season that we may not have in the previous two.
