If you could go back in time and change one thing in BL, what would it be?

With the cycle coming to a close and changes afoot in the BL offseason, this very question was asked to users of the Better League to allow them a chance to reminisce on the past. Sometimes when planning on the future it can be a good idea to examine the past and see what you might uncover. The question was deliberately kept vague so users could answer in any way they pleased, meaning this could be rule related, user related, game related etc. Some users were kind enough to offer multiple answers for different sections. Let’s dive in and see what you guys would have changed. 

 

The “I wouldn’t change anything’” Group 

 

“I don’t think I would change anything. Everything that has happened has made this league what it is. The fact that we are thriving as a league makes me feel that everything that has happened has been for the betterment of the league.” 

 

“I wouldn’t change anything. Think it worked out the way it was supposed to to become the best madden league.”

 

Some users expressed a sentiment of contentment, believing that everything that has happened in the league has contributed to its current success. They felt that the league’s growth and thriving state were a result of every event, both positive and negative. While this perspective is admirable, it’s hard to believe that users wouldn’t alter specific moments, such as that fateful throw in the Super Bowl or a regrettable trade.

 

The “Gameplay” Group

 

“I have one more. I was playing cmass. In position to win. He had a late holding call that would have gave me a first down and pretty much give me a great chance to win the game. I decided to be a “good guy” and not accept. I end up losing that game and missed the playoffs by one game”- Matt

 

“Madden 20, Season 22 AFCCG, Prince Amukamara doesn’t fumble the bag and locks down OBJ and my Chargers go to their 3rd straight super bowl” – Alex

Matt, I can only think your newfound success is the good fortune bestowed upon those that play with honour and decline the madden nonsense. 

 

The ‘Ocho’ Group 

 

“Tough question but an easy answer. Boot ocho the moment he joined. He brought nothing to this league other than despair.”

I knew for sure asking this question would get at least one Ocho response but three I thought was on the high end. The lasting impact of Ocho’s presence in the league is still felt by many, despite their absence.

 

The “Rules” Group 

 

“Remove easy mode sooner”

 

“league would be eliminating anytime we did any type of “slider” experiment”

 

“Would’ve done an actual fantasy draft. So no one could complain about their team.”

The “History” Group 

 

“I would have joined BL in M17, along with other guys in our core that hasn’t been here forever. A lot of what I did in other leagues (which I cared more about at the time) has been lost to history so the extra continuity would’ve been cool”

 

“personal would be staying the whole cycle in M19”

 

“Would have established BLN as soon as I joined the league. We were comming games as early as M18 but I had no idea what I was doing in terms of starting a twitch channel etc. if I could go back I would have done that ASAP

Like I’ve been here since S1, imagine if every Super Bowl EVER was commed? Would be great”

 

“Trading CMC to Ben for Derrick Henry when I first joined the league. I was unaware of the sliders that were put in place to make Henry garbage.”

 

“That’s a great question, Boz. So for me, it was back in Madden 20 and, Alex offered me the Chargers after the Chargers user left post lottery.And for whatever reason I stood by the team that I got in the lottery, which was the Texans.And then the Texans traded two first round picks and two second round picks for Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills.And then Alex went on to win multiple Super Bowls with the Chargers that cycle when I could have had them and had my favorite team.”
