Season 42 Coach’s Interview w/ Steel-Cardinals

Steel is a one-time Super Bowl Champion as he took the Steelers to the promised land last cycle. So far in Madden 23, Kyler Murray has not been the same game-changing player due to the toned down escape artist ability and lack of throwing abilities. Nonetheless, Steel is a solid team builder with the talent to compete. He put together an off-season plan that is sure to put him back into contention.  See below for his thoughts.

What was your offseason focus & do you believe that you achieved those goals? Primarily in regards to trades & FA itself.

Steel: I was told that I ran dumb plays by a rival nfc team. So that kind of resonated with me throughout the offseason so my big plan was to get some offensive weapons. Went out and traded for JK Dobbins and AJ Brown. With those trades it kind of let me take any player I wanted with pick 9 instead of being forced into taking a WR. I signed a dt who will be a good run stuffer for a year and a tackle. Nothing flashy but we should be fine til a bunch of big contracts come off next year and we can make a splash.

What was your draft strategy & who should the league be on the lookout for?

Steel: After making those trades I went into the draft with about 5 guys I absolutely wanted at 9 and was confident I’d get one. It was going to be either Rice or Crawford but then 6’4 94 speed CB Andrew Venable out of Notre Dame was there and I had to take the physical freak. But I think the real stud here is going to be EDGE De’Andre McAllister. He’s got all the tools. And a nice young developmental WR Jason Moorehead with 95 speed.

What is your realistic expectation for this season? Playoffs? Division Title? SB or bust?

Steel: Realistically I see myself always making the playoffs. The easiest way to do that is win the division. The NFC is deep af so you can’t count on a wildcard spot. The west is full of dawgs and most of my games with them have been tight so it’s no easy feat. I think I’ll take back the title this year though and win at least one playoff game.

If you had to name one breakout user for this upcoming season, who would it be & why?

Steel: I got two guys who I can see breaking out this year. And my break out user isn’t someone I see getting a little better. It’s someone that’s going to be playing great who you don’t wanna see and when you watch their games you’re like ‘wow they know what they’re doing, I wouldn’t wanna play them right now’. Those two users will be Morty and Tim. I think Morty had a plan this off-season to run the ball and get a solid o-line and he did that and Tim is a solid passer who has a team full of weapons.
