S42 Coach’s Interview w/ Morty-Ravens

Morty made the playoffs last season as the seven seed and eventually lost to the Jets (myself). It was a hard fought battle all the way through and I truly believe Morty can continue to compete this cycle.  I’d like to see him utilize Lamar a bit more, perhaps in a similar fashion to how Cloud has used Huntley (the former Ravens QB). Additionally, I am curious who will step up to be his true #2 WR as that felt like a weakness last season.

 

What was your offseason focus & do you believe that you achieved those goals? Primarily in regards to trades & FA itself.

My off-season focus was to change things up a bit more than I normally would. The second I got a favorable power back re-roll for Josh Jacobs I heavily invested in OL and TE to ideally be a bit more productive in heavy sets. I wasn’t active in FA due to cap but most of my top draft picks went towards beefing up DL and LB. I’m hoping Jacobs can handle the weight of my offense on his shoulders while my former UW dawg Trent McDuffie is the new face of my secondary. I’d love to be able to take advantage of Lamar’s speed more often but not being able to outrun most DL behind the line of scrimmage is so demoralizing.

 

What is your realistic expectation for this season? Playoffs? Division Title? SB or bust?

Realistically I’m hoping for a wildcard spot again. Divisional bros, Browns and Steelers have proven to be top AFC contenders and I haven’t yet figured out how to have success against them consistently yet. even when I can keep the score close I haven’t yet clutched out a win.

 

If you had to name one breakout user for this upcoming season, who would it be & why?

My breakout user for this upcoming season is ultimate leader commish Alex. Acquiring Chubb was huge and in some weird madden way hes a much more dominant player than McCaffrey. With his QB heading into year 2 I think he’s primed for a good one.
